The Institute of Broadcast Sound was established in 1977 as a professional organisation to foster an awareness of the importance of broadcast audio. The Institute was formed to meet a long felt need for a better interchange of ideas and techniques between the practitioners in the various areas of broadcast sound. Regular meetings are held. There are five levels of membership.

LINE UP is published by Line Up Publications Ltd for and on behalf of the Institute of Broadcast Sound (Est. 1977). It is distributed free of charge to IBS members at an address in the UK, Eire or continental Europe. It is also distributed free on a strictly controlled basis to senior operational and management staff with responsibility for audio in broadcast organisations and facilities companies in the UK, Eire and continental Europe. Rates: UK £45, Europe £55, World £65 per year. LINE UP provides information, debate and comment about the art and science of broadcast sounds and related topics.
