GUILD OF TELEVISION CAMERAMEN
 |
The Guild of Television Cameramen (GTC) is a professional body whose object is to ensure and preserve the professional status of the Television Cameraman and to establish, uphold and advance the standards of qualification and competence of the Television Cameraman. The GTC was formed in 1972 when 37 British TV Cameramen met in Birmingham to discuss matters of mutual interest. There are now around 1000 members, mainly from the U.K., but there are an increasing number of International Members from places as far apart as New Zealand and Switzerland. The GTC is not a Trade Union and seeks to avoid any political involvement. It aims to act as an authoritative source of advice and information on all matters of concern to Television Cameramen and to discuss matters of common interest. The day to day running of the Guild, which is a non profit making organisation, is in the hands of a Council who are elected every two years by a postal ballot of all Full and Associate members. The GTC provides a means by which manufactures can consult working cameramen when designing equipment and, as a consequence, have produced outline specifications for cameras, viewfinders, lenses etc. |
